 These are little studies of my grandson, whom for various reasons, I don't know. The mixture of feelings I get when I see photo's of him on F/B. All the questions that run through my head about this little guy.

 I'm not really a portrait artist, but I can do a decent painting or drawing of an adult. But let me tell you doing babies is a whole other story. Capturing their newness and freshness was a challenge as you can see. I will continue trying.

  This little painting is an expression of nature at her best! A combination of organic sensuousness (is that a word?). This painting was done from a photo of Jason Bruecks. I ususally like to work from my own references but when I saw this photo of his I had to ask for permission. I was so glad he didn't ask a bunch of questions, he just readily said YES!

 I was down in Phoenix when I spied this Horse Sculpture.  All though he was welded of some kind of metal I immediately felt he was a alive and running into the door!

 This is a still life of a floral that is lit from the back - painted on a full sheet of watercolor paper - done in a workshop with Betty Carr an artist that lives in the Sedona Area.

 I am very pleased with the outcome of this piece!

  I couldn't resist doing one more of the white flowering trees from this spring. They are all now full leafed. Ha!

  I threw salt in the background as it was drying to achieve this effect.

  While living in Ventura, CA I would often take early morning bike rides along the coast. There was one little piece of land at the top of Ventura, between Surfers Point and Dolphin Playground. The train would cross a bridge on the way in and out of town, right there, and from what I'm told is home to the homeless.

  One afternoon I decided to go in on my bike with my camera, to go shooting. I saw some people sitting at a picnic table but other than that this gorgeous little piece of land was empty of people. I was expecting to find some cardboard homes or trash, some kind of clues -.-. Instead it was quiet and clean. And very inviting. The homeless were not living there at the time. I never went back - but I have this beautiful painting from a wonderful afternoon of exploring.

  As you can see there is still one egg to be hatched. And you would think this little guy would be making a lot of noise - but he is just waiting with his little beak wide open.

  I am enjoying this little nest in the wreath. And the front door is still being very much used. Most of the time mama is gone and the little hatchlings are all huddled and sleeping.

  Eumundie has opened, and we are getting a lot of traffic. My friends here in Prescott come by and see me!

This is a little painting done of the hatching in process. Two hatchlings and two eggs.

I tried doing the drawing in a graphite wash - it just made everything grayer, kind of took the fun out of the painting. As you can see I stopped mid way.

Tea Pot

     I painted this a couple of years ago in a Sedona workshop with Gretchen Lopez. Gretchen is an amazing artist, and one of the best teachers I have ever studied with.
  This was meant to be an under painting a technique frequently used by the Old Masters. An under painting is the values, the lights, and darks are laid in and then the color is applied over it. I was so pleased with the painting at this stage that I stopped.
  Today I was finally given access to my gallery booth at the Eumundie Indoor Market. So I was busy watching the walls being painted by Marty and Emmet. These men put in a full days work and then as a favor - came over and painted the walls. Thank you both, I couldn't of done it as quickly or as neatly.

Bird Nest

 One night about a week ago, I was taking my pack of pups out for their evening walk. On my front door is a wreath and this tiny bird flew out just as I had stepped threw the threshold. Scared the bajeebees out of me.

 When we got back from our walk - I peeked inside the wreath to find this sturdy, well constructed, tiny nest, with four little light blue eggs. What an exciting discovery!

 Today I had a little time to paint so I painted the little "Bird Nest."

 On another note, I have all my supplies to revamp my booth at the indoor market. We (my fiance) and I were going to start painting the booth tomorrow (7/13). He is leaving to go out of town several days early - tomorrow (7/13 a.m.). So now I'm going to be doing the painting. . . alone. YIKES!!!! Wish me luck in this transformation.

  I wanted to return to "Daily Painting" (almost). I thought doing even smaller paintings would able me to do that, since there is less paper to cover. And be less time consuming.

Irises II

 This is a watercolor done on Clayboard (hardboard panel coated with soft absorbent kaolin clay). Painting on clayboard threw me for a curve, as this is really slippery and not absorbent at all. Any time I tried to lay color on top of dried color it would almost remove the first glaze. The beauty of working on this piece of clayboard is that it has it's own frame. (I have included in the image of the work) Since watercolor should be protected I could not put this piece under glass. I then sprayed several applications of a UV fixative. The finished piece is light weight, is protected and doesn't have a glare from glass.

 Feng Shui, strongly recommends groupings of two's if you are single - and want a relationship. A stronger composition from an artist standpoint - are odd number groupings, 3, 5, etc.

 I did several paintings of groupings of two's a couple of years ago. This one I kept, it reminded me of a little family. I have that now, the painting served its purpose. I have another painting in mind - but I'm having to clear wall space, and letting go.

Buddha

 This is one of the few oils I have done, and I feel really good about this piece. Painted almost two years ago, it hangs in my entry.

 Sometimes I become attached and quite fond of certain pieces, so I hang on to them for a while. I'm ready to let this one go. I guess they are sort of like children.
